What is New Work Cornwall?
In 2010, over 500 local people helped us to understand the employment challenges faced by people in Cornwall.
We also worked with local businesses and stakeholders to draw some fascinating insights about the employment, skills and support landscape in Cornwall.
Together we "co-designed" new services that might help local people to receive better support and access local employment opportunities.
In March 2011, we recommended to the Skills Funding Agency seven new ideas for improving the way services are delivered in Cornwall - ideas that were conceived in collaboration with local citizens, local businesses and stakeholders.
These improvements include roadmapping employment opportunities in Cornwall, improving peoples' perception of and access to skills and support, and boosting peoples' confidence and goals.
The Skills Funding Agency have accepted our recommendations, and have asked us to embed the best of New Work into mainstream services.
In a nutshell, our challenge now is to find new ways to help local citizens access local employment, in a way that adds values to local service providers.
New Work Cornwall will come to a close in September 2011.
