Seafood Training
Seafood Cornwall Training Ltd is based in Newlyn at the heart of Cornwall's Fishing Industry, having opened its doors to fishermen, and onshore workers from across the county and the Isles of Scilly in January 2009. This was the start of locally delivered training for the Cornish Fish Industry. The organisation was set up as a not for profit limited company by industry representatives to provide an ongoing resource and training centre.
Training
We deliver basic safety courses and further training for fishermen, in addition to a range of skills training for onshore fish processing companies and fishmongers. All our trainers are Seafish approved and courses are delivered to meet Seafish, MCA and RYA requirements. We aim to deliver courses where they are needed and can arrange training on request in ports across the county (facilities permitting).
Education
We coordinate educational visits to Newlyn and other Cornish Harbours and can arrange for representatives to visit the classroom to complement studies and programmes of work. We can tailor educational visits for any age group from primary school age to further education students.
Net to Plate
Events for adults can be tailored to requirements for groups needing to gain a deeper understanding of the Cornish Fish Industry. We are able to produce a bespoke itinerary for representatives from the catering, foodservice or education sectors. Our half or full day events start early with a market tour followed by a lecture/s covering subjects including species landed into Cornwall and the South West, fish stocks, fishing methods, conservation efforts and legislation followed by a harbour tour and a visit to a processing factory or shellfish unit.
